Cyphomyrmex

Cyphomyrmex is a genus of small, cryptic fungus-growing ants that are among the most commonly encountered of the attines. The gardens of some species are unusual in that the fungi do not grow as a white, mycelial mass as they do in most other attine gardens but as a yeast.  The yeast gardens are fed with the feces of Lepidopteran larvae and are often built on a substrate of beetle elytra.
