Nothomyrmecia macrops - Dinosaur Ant
South Australia

A foundress queen Nothomyrmecia forages on a Eucalypt trunk.  These strange and beautiful ants are not often seen as they only emerge from their nests on cold nights.  Like most ants that bear primitive traits, queens of Nothomyrmecia ants differ only slightly in structure from workers.
