The blog was slow this week. For that, I am sorry.
But not too sorry. Mrs. Myrmecos and I have been enjoying some away time in beautiful Vancouver. I will spare you details, other than to report we spent most of our weekend leisurely sampling the city’s restaurants and have finally arrived home to some needy cats.
A proper photographer’s vacation, of course, involves leaving the heavy camera gear at home. After all, schlepping the office with me wouldn’t be a vacation. Thus, I only carried my iPhone. It was gloriously light and convenient; all the photos in this post were taken with it.
Also, since it was a proper vacation, I will now sit you down and force you to view our vacation photographs.

Is that last one a selfie? 🙂
There are certain types of photos that iPhones do very well. Ants and tiger beetles not so much.
It is indeed a selfie, Ted! The ant fauna of Vancouver is so impoverished I didn’t feel at all bad leaving the MP-E lens at home.
I am glad you liked vancity. Wish I had a chance to meet you guys and point you to some hidden treasures of our beautiful town 🙂
I feel like I was there!
Glad you got some time away before the baby comes… because relaxing time will be over for the next 20 years once that happens.
Nice! Great shots!
I think I see some Leptothorax shots from Vancouver recently added… did you sneak in some mpe-65 time after all? 🙂
Almost. I snuck a couple workers back home in a vial.
“Vancouverites enjoying sunset at English Bay. Apparently, 63 degrees is considered downright balmy by local standards.”
No wonder it’s called English Bay!

Glad you had a great time in our town. You must’ve just missed the rain last week.I could’be shown you a few ants…carpenter ants regularly patrol the perimeter of our home.
