Sorry for the late posting. Tonight’s challenge is a straight-up identification. Who is this?
I will award 5 points for family, 5 points for genus, and bonus points for species.
The cumulative points winner across all mysteries for the month of May will win their choice of 1) any 8×10-sized print from my insect photography galleries, or 2) a guest post here on Myrmecos.
Good luck!
Ceratina calcarata
A sweat bee of some type I can’t Google on my phone.
Ceratina calcarata also.
hint: there’s more to this than just genus/species.
Halictidae? Augochlora?
Apidae, small carpenter bee, Ceratina as others have stated
I agree that Ceratina is a good guess, so family Apidae, genus Ceratina. I was a bit thrown off because I’m used to a marking on the clypeus. As for species, could it be Ceratina mikmaqi? I was looking up Ceratina just now, and this species was just described in 2011 by Rehan and Sheffield. Pretty neat, Ceratina dupla turned out to be 3 species.
Finally I think I would go for Ceratina dupla Female, because of the two row of pits laterad to parapisidial line.
