I like how he drew all his ants with 4 legs until one day apparently someone pointed out that they actually have 6. He never quite got them all to connect to the thorax, though.
This reminds me of the article “Ants and Surrealism: The Taxonomy of Salvador Dali’s Imaginary Ants” by V. Fourcassié on page 11 in Notes From Underground, A Myrmecological Newsletter, Number 5 – Fall 1990. Nobody ever gave an answer to the question in it. Fourcassié wanted to find out on which ant species Dali based his drawings…
