Ant researchers from the University of Illinois have returned from an ambitious Cambodia expedition with new lab animals. They are intended for studies of venom chemistry and mandible biomechanics, but I took a few hours on Tuesday to employ them as photographic subjects. First up is a genus I’d never before seen alive: Diacamma. Click the genus name to visit the new gallery.

Alex Wild, you’re so cool!
I beg to differ. I just hang out with cool ants.
You are the coolest Alex! Thanks for sharing these great photos of some most fascinating striated ants!
She’s a lovely little thing!
