With the accelerated spring this year we’re taking the good with the bad. My first mozzie bite of the year comes from Anopheles punctipennis (identified by Mrs. Myrmecos, who knows about these things):
photo details:

ISO 200, f/13, 1/250 sec, diffuse twin flash
LOL, Alex. It takes a certain ‘twist’ to view a mosquito bite as a Photo Op !!
Great photo as usual, esp considering the likely haste involved, since A. punctipennis “is a vicious biter”
It was on my elbow. You don’t want to know the contortions I went through to get this shot.
Glad you clarified where A. punctipennis was puncturing you…
Heh. This is the comment of the day, as far as I’m concerned.
It’s actually a little pretty from this angle, with the golden flecking on the mink fur-like background and that pink-purple color from its…oh. Well either way a droplet of your body fluids has never looked so photogenic.
Alex
Another first for Mrs Myrmecos
Hey are the carpenter bees and such out yet up there? There are 1000s of them flying around down here
“identified by Mrs. Myrmecos, who knows about these things” — And who might have been an influence in your calling it a mozzie bite, eh?
Nice!
