Terence, life span including egg thru adult ranges from 1 year to several years. Winged adults typically last for days thru a few months. There are over 2000 species described as I recall so there is a fair amount of variation.
Some species are known to fly hundreds of miles between pacific ocean islands and species from the Carboniferous era had wingspans over 2 feet wide.
